Disney’s Family Values: Love and Diversity in Storytelling

Confronting the “Anti-Family” Accusation
When I first created my Disney Facebook page for my Magical Mouse Command website, I was met with a wave of hateful and disgusting comments and private messages. Many were too rude to repeat, but one accusation stuck with me: the claim that Disney is “anti-family.”
This couldn’t be further from the truth. Disney’s Family Values have always celebrated unity, not division. Disney is not, and has never been, anti-family. In fact, it stands as a beacon for ALL families.
What Disney’s Family Values Really Show
At its core, Disney’s Family Values highlight love in all its forms—between friends, siblings, parents and children, and even across cultures. These stories remind us that diverse experiences may clash and struggle, but they can ultimately come together to create something beautiful.
Disney’s Family Values in Modern Stories
Take Elemental, for instance. It tells the story of Fire and Water living side by side while navigating themes of marginalization and resilience. Encanto celebrates each family member’s unique talents while emphasizing the importance of understanding differences.
Up explores aging and loss, reminding us that purpose can be found at any stage of life. Toy Story captures the evolving stages of friendship, a theme every family recognizes. Frozen showcases the powerful love between sisters, while Wishencourages audiences to stand up for their dreams and for others. Each of these stories reflects Disney’s Family Values of love, resilience, and hope.
Growth, Loss, and Resilience
Disney storytelling often grapples with profound themes like death and resilience. These lessons teach us how to overcome loss while cherishing what remains. Over time, Disney’s narratives have evolved to reflect more complex portrayals of good and evil. What looks like evil sometimes comes from pain or misunderstanding—another reminder of the depth behind Disney’s Family Values.
Why Disney’s Family Values Endure
At its core, Disney embodies love, courage, and heroism—the very qualities that inspire families across generations to celebrate their shared experiences.
So when you think about Disney’s Family Values, remember this: they go beyond entertainment. They are an invitation for families of all kinds to connect through storytelling that transcends boundaries.

Mickey’s Not So Scary 2024
I had every intention of jumping right on this and getting it posted as soon as we got back from our trip, but sometimes life has other plans! With unexpected news of our oldest leaving the nest and moving out of state, I needed a little time to process that big change. But let’s dive into the magic of our very first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party!
Tips
First off, let me tell you—there is a LOT to do in a short period of time! My top recommendation? Pick a handful of things you want to experience. Whether it’s savoring some spooky snacks, enjoying thrilling rides, trick or treating, meeting Not So Spooky characters, or catching a couple of shows, pick a couple from each list. Having a loose plan will help you make the most out of your night.
Reasonable Expectations are Key
Now, keep your expectations reasonable. Despite what you may have heard about lower crowds during the party, it can get crowded and busy! And yes, sometimes Mother Nature decides to rain on your parade—literally. If there’s something you’re really excited about, try to knock that out first, but be flexible! For instance, trying to ride Tiana’s Bayou during Halloween party night might not be the best idea since that ride tends to break down quite often. Remember: with only five hours technically for the party, prioritizing is key!
Arrive Early
Getting there early is another must-do if you can swing it! If you’re an Annual Passholder like us, aim for arrival before 4 PM—it was much less crowded before the festivities kicked off. Take some photos and explore while knocking out a ride or two before everything gets started. You might even find some of the delicious snacks available after 6pm!
The lines for party bags and bracelets can get long at first but trust me—they move quickly! We snagged ours at Mickey’s Philharmagic without any hassle. And if you have a child with sensory sensitivities, no worries; they can accommodate how that bracelet is worn in special cases.
Pace Yourself
When we attended, it was hot and humid—so hydrate and pace yourselves throughout the evening!
Don’t forget to take your time just wandering around soaking in all those delightful sights and sounds. Guests also wear entertaining and fantastic costumes, so be sure to check them out too.!
Most importantly? Enjoy yourself!!
Our Experience
Now let’s talk about our experiences and highlights for the party: We went with a plan, which now in hindsight was pretty overzealous. This was our plan: Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2024 Plan
There is a pretty big learning curve when doing anything at Disney World for the first time. The excitement and anticipation couples with the challenges presented by the weather and crowds. You’ve got to be flexible.
Snacks!
We managed to sneak in two snack spots after 6pm! We indulged in the delightful Sweet and Spicy Beignets and the rich Chocolate Caramel Tart from Golden Outpost, both of which were delicious! Later, we grabbed a Cajun Burger and the refreshing Guava Lemonade Slushy at Pecos Bill’s. These ended up being the only food stops we made, but we enjoyed everything we tried! Everything was good, though oddly none of us found the beignets to be spicy at all!

Trick or Treat
After snacks we hit our first trick and treat spot at Pirates. Our original plan was to hit Tiana’s first, which seemed to be the plan for a lot of people because the line was backed up to Pecos Bill’s by 7pm. However, the ride was inoperable so we had to adjust. We did our next trick or treat at the dock to Tom’s Sawyers Island.

Special Sightings
Walking to Haunted Mansion we spotted The Cadaver Dan’s Barbershop Quartet by the Country Bears area which ended with an unexpected sighting of the Hitchhiking Ghosts.

The Haunted Mansion was especially captivating in its spooky spirit! There was fog and lights and spooky sounds. We even caught a glimpse of Carlotta the ghost. She was very entertaining.

Boo-To-You Parade
The Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade was absolutely fabulous with so many fantastic characters unique to Halloween! After the parade, we headed for Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular and sure enough, in typical Florida fashion, it rained heavily for a bit—but thankfully not for long!
Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular
Once the rain ended and they cleared the stage the light show began. There was a small break before the stage show. The Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular exceeded my expectations! It was incredibly entertaining with tons of iconic villains making appearances.

After the stage show we hit a couple more trick or treat spots. Eventually we made our way to Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor where we hung out for a bit before calling it a night. We went home with a LOT of candy, and we didn’t even hit all the spots.
To summarize, during party hours we hit several trick or treat spots, ate a few exclusive MNSSHP Halloween snacks, managed two rides along with watching both the parade and light show plus the amazing Hocus Pocus stage show. We didn’t get around to meeting any characters this time since we were short on moments due to rain delay—but hey—there’s always next year!
So grab your costumes and prepare for an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and magic at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party—it truly is an experience like no other!

Disney Prices: A Compelling Comparison
Are Disney Prices Really That High?
I often hear complaints about Disney prices being too high. But when you look closer, Disney often provides more value than other forms of entertainment.

Recently, we visited Medora, North Dakota, to see the Medora Musical. The least expensive ticket was $61.90. Adding a meal would have cost another $49.30, bringing the total to $111.20 for one person. We also spent $30.44 on a pack of candy, a bucket of popcorn, and three sodas. For all that, we sat outdoors in the hot sun and watched the show. Some clouds saved us from baking, but to be honest, I was disappointed with what I got for the money.

Disney’s Hoop Dee Doo Revue vs. Other Shows
In contrast, the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort felt like a better value. Tickets start at $66 and go up to $74. That price includes an indoor, climate-controlled setting, a fun and high-energy show, plus an all-you-care-to-enjoy meal. You also get unlimited drinks—including beer, wine, and sangria. The production quality and overall value easily outshined the Medora experience.

This comparison made me wonder: how do Disney prices stack up against everyday entertainment? The answer surprised me even more.
Disney Prices vs. Everyday Treats
Take ice cream. A small cone at Cold Stone Creamery costs $7.75. At Disney’s Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, a double scoop costs $7.29. That’s less money for more ice cream—right on Main Street, U.S.A.

Or consider the movies. A ticket, popcorn, drink, and candy at my local theater totals $43.45 for a single person. With discounts, it’s still $40.30. That’s for about two hours of entertainment. In comparison, a non-discounted Disney ticket costs $109 for a full day. Break that down, and you’re paying about $18.17 for each two-hour block of entertainment—far less than the movies.

Even Disney Snacks Are Competitive
Even the classic theme park snack—popcorn—feels like a better deal at Disney. AMC Theaters charges $8.99 for a regular tub. Disney’s popcorn is $6.50 or less for the same size. If you get a refillable popcorn bucket, refills are only $2.25. You can even try unique flavors like maple popcorn from Canada in EPCOT.

The True Value of Disney Pricing
So yes, Disney prices may seem high at first glance. But when you compare them to other entertainment and dining, the value becomes clear. Disney offers more than a product—it delivers a world-class experience. With smart planning, you can stretch that value even further and create memories that last far beyond the price tag.

Embracing Change at Walt Disney World

Embracing Change at Walt Disney World: Evolving Magic and Nostalgia
“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious … and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” ~Walt Disney
My Disney Journey
Call me a Disney “baby.” Not literally, but I am fairly new to visiting Walt Disney World. Since my first trip, I’ve discovered that embracing change at Walt Disney World is part of the guest experience, sometimes exciting and sometimes a little uncomfortable.
Although I’m envious of people who vacationed at Disney their whole lives, I also feel lucky. Experiencing the magic as an adult gave me a fresh perspective and a deep appreciation for details I might have missed as a child.
The Disney I First Knew
On our very first trip, the Disney landscape looked different. There were no park reservations to worry about. Dining reservations could be made 180 days in advance. And FastPasses — those precious golden tickets of efficiency — still existed.
Then the pandemic hit, and the world turned upside down. When Disney reopened, things had changed. Suddenly, park reservations were required for certain tickets. Dining reservations dropped to a 60-day window. FastPasses disappeared, and Genie+ took their place.
For many, these shifts felt overwhelming. But for me, just beginning my Disney journey, it was simply the “new normal.”
Adjusting to the New Systems
I didn’t mind the changes as much as some guests. Park reservations were straightforward to grab. Dining reservations took effort, but I managed. The only thing that really gave me pause was the price tag attached to Genie+, especially since FastPasses had once been free.
Still, I took it all in stride. I was learning the rules as I went, and the systems in place were simply the ones I had to master. In fact, I sometimes felt like I had an easier time than Disney “veterans” who had to unlearn their old methods. For them, embracing change at Walt Disney World wasn’t just about logistics — it touched their emotions.
The Latest Shifts
Fast forward to now. Genie+ is being phased out in favor of Lightning Lane Passes. Fan-favorite menu items have quietly slipped away, replaced by alternatives. Even walkways have been rerouted, making longtime guests pause in confusion.
I’ve noticed these changes too. As a repeat visitor, I’ve seen rides, shows, and even small touches evolve. My reaction has mostly been a shrug — a “meh” at worst. For others, though, these updates trigger frustration, disappointment, and sometimes vows never to return.
For official updates, you can always check the Walt Disney World website.
Why Change Feels Hard
I do understand where that resistance comes from. For guests who grew up walking down Main Street, U.S.A. hand-in-hand with their parents or watching fireworks on the castle lawn with their siblings, those memories carry an incredible weight. When Disney changes, it can feel like those cherished moments are being overwritten.
The nostalgia runs deep because Disney isn’t just a place — it’s a scrapbook of family traditions, milestones, and moments that can’t be replicated. That’s why even something small, like losing a favorite snack or ride, can feel like a personal loss.
Why Embracing Change at Walt Disney World Matters
Yet at the same time, Disney has to keep moving forward. That’s what Walt himself believed. If the parks stayed exactly the same, they’d risk becoming relics instead of living, breathing stories.
The Imagineers are constantly dreaming up new attractions, lands, and technologies that keep Disney relevant to each new generation. The specific systems may change — reservations, dining windows, ticketing programs — but the heart of Disney remains.
For me, the essence is still there: the way Main Street smells of popcorn and fudge, the cheerful greetings from Cast Members, the immersive environments that make you forget the outside world. Those pieces are what make the magic timeless, even when the details evolve.
What Hasn’t Changed
No matter how many updates roll through the parks, Disney’s commitment to quality and to creating magical moments endures. The Cast Members still sprinkle kindness into every interaction. The shows still inspire awe. The nighttime fireworks still make people cry — myself included.
Those are the threads that tie every trip together, whether it’s your first or your fiftieth.
Nostalgia and New Magic
As Disney continues to grow, my hope is that long-time fans can hold onto their nostalgia without letting it sour their future trips. The magic doesn’t only live in the rides or restaurants — it lives in the emotions Disney stirs, the laughter you share with your family, and the memories you carry home.
Embracing change at Walt Disney World doesn’t mean letting go of the past. It means making room for new memories alongside the old ones.
Disney is more than a park. It’s a story that keeps writing itself. And like all great stories, it needs new chapters. If we can honor the old while embracing the new, then the magic will always be there, ready to meet us at the turnstiles.
✨ Final Thought: Change doesn’t erase the magic. It reshapes it, so we can experience it again and again — differently each time, but always with wonder.
